Athens Riviera Weekends Grand Resort Lagonissi

Few visitors to Greece realise that less than 10 miles south of the city centre lies this photogenic stretch of mountains, mineral lakes, seaside resorts and sandy beaches with blue-flag certified clean waters called “Athenian Riviera”. Being consisted by 35 miles of coastal road that connect the seaside retail hub of Glyfada to Cape Sounion and the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon on the Attica peninsula, the Athenian Riviera offers its visitors the kind of island magic that many people come to Greece for, without even noticing that the busy city centre is just a few miles away. You don't need to get on a ferry to escape the bustle of the Greek capital: take a short bus ride and you'll find superb local beaches along the sheltered Saronic Gulf stretching from the southern suburbs of Athens to the southernmost point of Attica, Cape Sounio. Giving a variety of choices for every taste, Athenian Riviera boasts its own unique features. Southern Athens is a fantastic multi-tasking destination for couples, families and business travelers seeking to unwind and experience "island magic" without having to step foot on a ferry. Take the opportunity to swim in sandy beaches like the ones in Vouliagmeni, relax at a waterfront café, walk along the picture-perfect pedestrian streets and the marinas, exercise your favourite water sport, shop in one of the area’s modern shopping centres, dine by the sea or entertain yourself in one of the coastal avenue’s buzzing clubs –the young people’s favourite choice– that have actually brought a touch of Mykonos in town! Summer in the city doesn’t sound that bad after all, does it?

Boat tour to the islands of the Saronic Gulf

Your journey begins with taking a boat at the arranged pick up time right from your hotel’s beach. After admiring the Aegean blue, being warmed by the Greek sun, the islands of the Saronic Gulf are just a small step to reach to. You can choose between i) Aegina, famous for its history as the first temporary capital city of the modern Greek state before Nafplion and later Athens and its ancient sights, like the temple of Afea, ii) Poros, the smallest picturesque Saronic island, iii) Spetses, the gem of the Saronic Gulfandiv) Hydra, the most cosmopolitan Saronic island. Enjoy your day by swimming in sapphire crystal waters, lying in sandy, lacy beaches, discovering places you haven’t imagined and reach places that aren’t accessible to everyone.

The islands of the Saronic Gulf are also ideal for long romantic strolls; their paved narrow streets surrounded by tiny souvenir shops offer a unique opportunity to their visitors to explore every little inch of them and even ride on little donkeys (in Hydra’s case, where not only the inhabitants but also the visitors aren’t allowed to drive cars and motorcycles) , just an hour away from the busy and crowded city of Athens. You can have lunch in traditional taverns, where you can enjoy not only fresh fish and seafood, but also the warm island hospitality. The departure time will come sooner as you may have estimated, but going back to your hotel by boat, gazing at the sunset, you’ll realize that it was definitely worth it.
